Susan was born in Orillia, Ontario, but spent most of her life in scenic Niagara and then moved to Port Rowan. Experimentation and living in the vicinity of Backus Woods Conversation has enforced the bold colour of her oil paintings, and texture of her palette knife. Her goal, when transferring nature to canvas, is to make a stark impression by stirring a long-forgotten memory or revealing an avenue to explore the imagination. She is also proficient in acrylics and watercolours.
As the Project and Events Director for Norfolk ArtsCo she initiated the Authors’ Book Fair which was successful for 5 years under her guidance and then it continued under the direction of the Norfolk Public Library System. Susan has also served on the committee for the Norfolk Visual Arts Competition and participates annually with the Norfolk Visual Arts Tour.
Susan has studied under the auspices of Mary Lampman, Vinnie Vabalis, Sam Paonessa, Linda Kemp, Gloria Kingma and Art Cunanan. Her paintings hang in homes across Canada, Germany and corporate offices.
Today, she devotes her time to golfing, gardening and experimenting with different painting techniques.
Susan has been teaching palette knife painting every other week at Capitol Arts Market. If you are interested, you can register through the website or at the gallery at any time.
